Farm Day in the City Traffic Advisory and Details

Farm Day in the City, presented by the PEI Potato Growers, returns to the historic downtown Charlottetown this Sunday, October 1 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The public is invited to in the Island’s largest outdoor street festival and to celebrate all things local at the 10th anniversary of Farm Day in the City. Farmers, producers, restaurants, crafters, and artisans come together to celebrate the Island’s buy local culture and bring together the urban and the rural communities. The centre of Charlottetown is transformed into the Island’s largest open air market and features music, children’s entertainment, agricultural displays, a petting zoo and some good ol’ fashioned friendly competitions.

In order for this fantastic event to take place, a number of road closures are required. Motorists are advised that on Sunday, October 1, from 4 a.m. until 9 p.m., the following streets will be closed to all traffic, with no parking permitted on either side of these streets:

  • Queen Street between Grafton Street and Water Street;
  • Richmond Street between Pownal Street and Great George Street;
  • Sydney Street between Pownal Street and Great George Street;
  • Dorchester Street between Pownal Street and Great George Street;
  • And King Street between Pownal Street and Great George Street;

For persons with disabilities, Farm Day in the City will have accessible washrooms on-site and the elevator and accessible washrooms within the Confederation Centre of the Arts are also available. The upper Plaza vendors at the Confederation Centre location are accessible via the elevator inside or ramps outside. Accessible parking is also available in the downtown core, near the event. Farm Day is a product of Discover Charlottetown.

The Charlottetown Fire Department is also hosting an Open House on Sunday, October 1 during Farm Day in the City. The Open House will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Station 1, 89 Kent Street. The event is free and all are welcome. Firefighters will be in attendance with fire prevention tips, and Sparky, the fire department mascot, will make an appearance. The public will also be able to learn how to use a fire extinguisher and experience several other firefighting related tasks.
